Here is the pendulum example that shows how overlapping action can liven up your animation.  Refer to my previous post for a more detailed description.  The animation on the right is how the pendulum should look.  It is a very simple process where you just offset the keys for each control in the graph editor.  I think this animation took me less than a minute.
